The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced new. “This is going to be the most exciting youth program and child. Days for girls — will be replaced by bimonthly Primary Activities, which will still be held separately for boys and girls. He deserve's the rewards and accolades they give him.
We have gone out of our way to try to reward the children in our Primary without food, but even so, we just wind up replacing food with small trinkets and gifts. I’m not sure exactly how to keep kids motivated (or if it even works!) but I’m interested in finding truly unique ways to reward the Primary or individual children for extra effort in behavior, scripture study, or, for example, Faith in God. Here is the list I came up with! It’s written with Primary in mind, but I actually think a lot of these could work well for a youth group or Seminary with some adaptation. There’s an easy printable below.
Free, Non-Food Rewards
Teacher performs a special skill for the whole Primary (think cartwheels, hula hoop, singing, or drawing)
Let the child make an announcement or hand out birthday treats
Teacher or leader eats something gross (Tabasco sauce, cockroach or cricket!)
Special scribe for the day–the child gets to take all the notes on the whiteboard or chalkboard
Wrap someone in toilet paper like a mummy (child chooses: a teacher, friend, or themselves!)
Have a member of the presidency do a game during class time (perfect if the whole class earns a reward)
Teacher sings a capella, song choice by the child
Send a letter home to the parents celebrating the child
Special Helper for the Day: doing things like checking on the Nursery, going with the Sunbeams for a walk, making copies in the library, taking a child to a drinking fountain
Bring in a special chair (from the foyer) for the child to sit on in the back of the room
Color an activity sheet during Sharing or Singing Time
Go on a walk with a teahcer or the presidency
Watch a church appropriate (but fun!) video in class Erase space creating temporary file free.
Plan a Saturday Teachers/Leaders vs. Senior Primary football, volleyball or baseball game
Reward the whole Primary with a “Share Your Favorite Book” Sharing Time (every child gets to bring a favorite bedtime book and read as many as you can together)
Invite the parents (grandparents, bishop, or home or visiting teacher) to come to Primary and tell the Primary three things they love about their child
Let the child choose and lead the music
Decorate a bulletin board with the child as the star
Choose to hold class outside, in the lobby, on the stage, or in another classroom
